Charles Jean-Baptiste Parchappe , born the April 4th 1787 with Épernay (the Marne), general French.
Biography
It was born from a anoblie family by Henri IV with the Siège of Épernay. It entered to the Military academy of Fontainebleau the December 8th 1804, and was named there quartermaster-sergeant. Second lieutenant in April 1806 with the 56e of line, it joined this body in Italy, passed in Germany, attended as commander of the auxiliary detachments the seats of Stralsund and of Colbert, belonged to the task force which operated in Denmark under the orders of the Prince of Laying-Corvo; and, after the Escape of Romana, its division directed on the Spain followed, stopped with Lyon from where it left to forced marches to go to join Augsburg to the body ordered by Masséna.Appointed lieutenant by the Emperor after the Battle of Ratisbon, it attended the Combat of Ebelsberg, passed the the Danube in front of Vienna with some men, went to be established in an imperial country cottage and defended themselves there all the night, continued to fight heroically the following days, and was decorated with the hand of the Emperor after the Bataille of Essling.
Wounded with the Battle of Wagram by a ball which removed its Shako; it followed its division after the countryside of 1809 to attend in Holland the abdication of the king Louis Bonaparte.
In 1814, it was still the Emperor who created Capitaine of acrobats lieutenant Parchappe, in remembering his beautiful control with Essling. The Parchappe captain made the Campagne of Russia with distinction and was wounded there.
In 1813, belonging to the 2° body, division Dubreton, it fought with Dresden, Wachau, Leipzig, Hanau. Its control, in these various businesses, was worthy of greatest praises the.
In the countryside of France, Parchappe fought with Ligny, Saint-Dizier, Brienne, Chauménil, Rothière, Troyes, etc, and was several times wounded.
The January 28th 1814, it was named Major and officer of the Légion of honor on the battle field.
The Restauration left it inactive; but it made the Bataille of Waterloo and was again returned in its hearths.
In 1823, ordering it Parchappe made the Campagne of Spain; it was Chevalier of Saint-Louis, it obtained the Croix of Saint-Ferdinand.
In 1823, one appointed it lieutenant-colonel at the time when its regiment (the 51e) was going to embark for the Guadeloupe, then colonel of this same regiment. The Révolution of July prevented it from going to join it with the colonies.
