Biography
Become heir to the county of Wurtemberg and the Principality of Mömpelgard (Montbeliard) in vain had, like fire his/her cousin, Eberhard-Louis , his predecessor, harassed the king Louis {{XV}} with its complaints concerning the seigniories (four adjacent grounds of the county of Montbeliard) on which the sequestration of France was maintained without reasonable reasons. Worse still: as the war had been re-ignited in 1734 between the Empire and France, the king put the hook on Montbeliard and his county; the occupation “manu militari” lasted two years. A royal bailliage replaced the Council of Regency and Catholicism was restored in the church of the castle. Moreover, the population was imposed strong contributions for the maintenance of the troops of occupation. It was necessary to await a new peace treaty signed in Vienna the following year, so that the county is returned to its legitimate sovereign.
Fact surprising in the house of Wurtemberg, Charles-Alexandre converts with the Catholic religion. However, as of its nomination, it urged anything to modify in that established since the Reform; in other words, in all the schools, the universities, the churches, one would continue to teach the religion Lutheran considered like only and single doctrines in his duchy, and thus consequently, in the Principality of Montbeliard.
Prince Charles-Alexandre was going to reign less than four years on Montbeliard and the Wurtemberg.
Whereas it was not officially invested yet a title of count de Montbéliard by the Empereur, it died suddenly at the 53 years age.
Its life had been marked by long and brilliant military career as general in the imperial army. Its sons, Charles-Eugene , initially, then Frederic-Eugene were going to reign on the Montbeliard.
Charles 1st of Wurtemberg belongs to the first branch known as connects elder Maison of Wurtemberg.
