Charles Goffic

Charles Goffic (July 14th 1863 with Lannion - February 12th 1932 with Lannion) is a Poète, Romancier and Critique Littéraire French whose very whole work celebrates the Brittany.

Wire of a bookseller printer, it is teaching successively with Gap, Évreux, Nevers and with the Havre. In 1886, it founds with Maurice Barrès and Raymond of Tailhède the literary review the Chronicles . Near to Charles Maurras, he collaborates in the Revue French Action (1899) which will become the French Action (daily newspaper) (1908) like with the critical Revue of the ideas and the books . Although republican convinced, its Regionalism militant and its ideals traditionalist S make him support the maurrassien project monarchical restoration as its letter published in to it the Investigation into monarchy (1900) testifies to the leader of AF.

Goffic is elected member of French Academy in 1930.

In 1895 it introduced in Brittany the large Scottish bagpipe.

wood sleeping

the lament of the Breton heart , fragment
When, from the center of the deep sea,
Like a alcyon in its nest,
the Breton Heart came in the world
In its hard cradle from granite,
It was one evening, one evening of autumn,
Under a sky low, ringed iron,
And on the poor Breton Heart
Pleurait the evening, sang the sea.

Spring of Brittany , fragment

a paddle of softness wakes up on the moor:
the spring of Brittany flowered the slopes.
the bells of Ker-Is said it as far as Iceland
To pale “In Gone” which will not return any more.

We also who live and who pimpernels far from it,

Far from the soft fairy with the hair of broom,
That our heart to at least remains him faithful,
Renaissons with it per hour when all reappears.

O spring of Brittany, enchantment of the world!

To smile virginal of the ground and water!
It is like a scattered honey in the fair light:
waked up Viviane took again her spindles.
