Charles Gauguier

Charles Séraphin Joseph Gauguier is a French politician born with Lille the April 22nd 1793 and died in Paris towards 1865.

Biography

Entered with the military special School of Saint-Cyr military school, Charles Gauguier had to leave it following a duel. Named second lieutenant of dragons by Napoleon I {{er}}, it made the Campagne of Russia, then that of 1813 where it gained the cross of the Légion of honor.

The Restauration put a term at its military career. Become ironmaster to Neufchâteau, he was elected, the July 5th 1831, was appointed by the 5th electoral college of the the Vosges (Neufchâteau) (74 votes out of 98 voters and 265 registered voters). He was re-elected the June 21st 1834 (112 votes out of 124 voters and 170 registered voters), September 4th 1837 (97 vote out of 126 voters and 166 registered voters) and March 2nd 1839 (109 votes out of 128 voters and 171 registered voters).

He sat at the left of the House of Commons and voted for the proposal Rémusat against the deputy-civils servant, subject which occupied it more particularly. He had been made a speciality reproduce each year a parliamentary reform proposal tending to reduce the number of the deputy-civils servant by removing the treatment of the public office throughout session. He announced in particular in 1838 at the time of the debate on the Address by attacking highly the government Molé, shown by him to handle the elections, in particular thanks to the deputy-civils servant and in their favor.

Undoubtedly nostalgic of the Empire, he declared at the time of the debate on the application for credit for the return of ashes of Napoleon (May 26th 1840): “God had appeared astonished by the superhuman genius of Napoleon. ”

He was not re-elected with the general elections of 1842 and renonça with the public life, remaining only general adviser of the canton of Neufchâteau until in 1862.
