Charles Emile Freppel

Charles Emile Freppel ; born with Obernai (the Low-Rhine), on June 1st 1827, deceased with Angers, on December 23rd 1891, bishop of Angers and appointed at the National Assembly.

After having made studies with the great seminar of Strasbourg, it was ordered priest in 1850. Professor with the seminar of Strasbourg, then Doctor of Divinity, he became then professor of eloquence crowned with the Sorbonne in 1854.

December 27th 1870, it was named with the évêché of Angers, where it created a catholic university, and on June 6th 1880, it was elected appointed. It sat on the right, and took a share of most active with the parliamentary debates.

It protested in particular against the obligatory education which it considered useless, ineffective “, and tending to the state socialism. ”, and the re-establishment of the divorce fought.

He was re-elected appointed Finistere, on October 14th 1885, and he was opposed in particular to the continuations against the Général Baker.

As bishop, in 1876, it excommunicated the Count de Falloux for a question of building of church. It is quoted like one of the sources of the integral Nationalisme.

Freppel was named Chevalier of the Légion of honor in 1868.
