Charles Dombre

Charles Célestin Dombre was born and died in Nimes, 1814 - 1887:

Resulting from a Protestant big family of the Gard, wire of David Dombre, railway Engineer, it took part in the opening-up of the Département of Gard.

Biography

After having been with Polytechnic (X1834 Promotion) and in the Bridges and Chaussées, he became a collaborator close relation of Paulin Talabot, creator of the railroad company " Lyon-Méditerranée" then " Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée" (PLM) and of Mr. Ruelle.

He was the originator and the creator of many railway lines (such as that in the Cevennes, between Alès and Large-Combe the) and of works of art, such as the Viaduc of Chamborigaud (viaduct in curve an overall length of 387 meters, of more than 50 meters height, including/understanding 41 arches, allowing famous the Ligne of the Cevennes to cross the valley of Luech) or of Villefort (a 257 meters length and a 73 meters height), many bridges on the the Rhone or the the Loire.

Mr. Dombre worked out more than 1.000 kilometers of railroads since the edges of the the Loire and Allier to the shore of the the Mediterranean.

Charles Célestin Dombre is the son of David Dombre, the brother of Charles Leon Dombre, hydraulic engineer having directed the exploration of the Pont of Gard and the whole of the Roman aqueduct in 1846, and the uncle of the engineer Antoine Paul Dombre.
