Charles Colson
Charles Wendell " Chuck" Colson (born in 1931) is a personality of the Droite American Christian woman and a former political adviser of the president Richard Nixon.
Originating in the Massachusetts, it is engaged in the body of the Marines (1951-1953), works with the Secretariat of the Navy (1953-1956), for the republican senator of Massachusetts Leverett Saltonstall (1956-1961), and for a law firm of Washington (1961-1969). In 1968, he advises Nixon at the time of the presidential campaign, in a Committee on the essential stakes.
In November 1969, Colson is named special adviser of president Nixon. It serves of connection between the White House and the private lobbys (preserving veterans, farmers, movements, trade unions, industrial engineering, and of many others lobbys). Its influence feels on the choice of the guests of the White House or the important files, concerning with defense, Vietnam or the budget. Colson gained the reputation of a pitiless man. He is the author into 1971 of a listing memo of the enemies of Nixon, revealed at the time of the Scandale of Watergate. John Dean, legal adviser of the presidency, affirmed that Colson had proposed to pose a bomb in the Brookings Institution in order to recover documents there. With Ehrlichman, Colson charged Howard Hunt with the operation of burgling of the Watergate. It had financed an operation of this type to recover documents in the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg, author of the escape of the Papiers of the Pentagon in 1971. March 10th, 1973, in full scandal of Watergate, he resigns of the White House. March 1st, 1974, he is accused of conspiracy and obstruction to justice. He pleads guilty in the business Ellsberg, he is condemned to 1 to 3 years of prison, but leaves at the end of 7 months, due to family problems.
After its stay in prison, Colson claims to have found the Christian faith and to be a Born Again. It becomes a media and recognized figure evangelism, expressing the preserving positions suitable for the Droite Christian woman supporting George W. Bush.
