Charles Colbert de Croissy , born with Rheims in 1625 and died in Versailles the July 26th 1696, is a French diplomat.
Charles Colbert, marquis of Croissy, brother of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, is to advise of State, intendant of Alsace in 1656, president of the Superior council of Ensisheim in 1657, President with mortar with the Parlement of Metz in 1662.
He is named ambassador with Berlin, Rome and in England, where he negotiates secret alliance with Charles II of England between 1668 and 1674. He is one of plenipotentiary congress of Aachen in 1668 and Traité of Nimègue in 1678.
He is named Secretary of State to the foreign affairs in 1679, succeeding Pomponne. He applies the Politique Meetings of Louis XIV, which leads to the Guerre of the League of Augsburg. He prepares the negotiations of the Traité of Ryswick of 1697.
His death, his/her son Jean-Baptiste Colbert de Torcy succeeds to him.
