Charles Coghlan
Sir Charles Patrick John Coghlan (1863 - 1927) was the first Prime Minister of the colony Britannique of Southern Rhodesia of October 1st 1923 until its death the August 28th 1927. He was member of the " Rhodesian Reform Party".
Charles Coghlan was born the June 24th 1863, with King William' S Town in the Colonie of the Cape in South Africa.
Lawyer, Charles Coghlan settled in 1900 with Bulawayo in Southern Rhodesia. He was elected in 1908 at the legislative council like representative of the district of Bulawayo.
In 1914, it requires the end of the management of British South Africa Company BSAC on the territory rhodésien. He is also opposed to any project of unification of Southern Rhodesia with the Rhodesia of north or South Africa.
In 1922, it successfully directs the anti-unionistic movement rhodésien at the time of the Référendum on the integration of Rhodesia to the Union of South Africa.
It have the responsibility of control the transition from the management of the colony of British South Africa Company in an autonomous colony within the the British Commonwealth.
He was regarded as largest rhodésien after the founder of the country, Cecil Rhodos.
Died in function on August 28th, 1927, it is buried close to Rhodos in the national park of Matopos.
