Charles Bronfman

Charles Rosner Bronfman , CP, DC, (born the June 27th 1931 with Montreal) is a Canadian Business man and a Philanthrope.

He is the fifth richest man of Canada, according to the review Forbes , with a net Amount of 2,2 billion American dollars. Its fortune comes from the family spirit company. He was the majority owner of the Expos of Montreal in the major Ligue of baseball of the foundation of the team in 1968 until the sale of 1990 with Claude Brochu.

He is the son of Samuel and Saidye Bronfman; his/her brothers and sisters are Minda, the architect Phyllis and Edgar. He is the uncle of Edgar Bronfman, Jr..

Bronfman was educated at the school Selwyn House in Montreal, the College Trinity of Port Hope in Ontario and with the Université McGill.

Philanthropist

With Michael Steinhardt, it founded Birthright Israel , a program which provides an educational experiment of voyage to the young old Jews from 18 to 26 years. Bronfman is the president of Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies Inc , a family philanthropy which operates in Israel, with the Canada and the the United States.

President

Since November 1997, Bronfman is the president of the council of Koor Industries Ltée., one of largest the Israeli companies of leasing. He is the vice-president of the McGill Institute for the study of Canada. Of 1999 with 2001, Bronfman was the first president of the federation of the Jewish communities of North America. He is the former vice-president of Seagram Ltée.

Family

He married Andrea Morrison and they had five children and four grandchildren. His wife died accidentally the January 23rd 2006.

In 2002, his/her children, Stephen and Ellen, launched the Prix Charles-Bronfman rewarding the projects advancing the Jewish causes.
