Charles Bricogne

Charles Bricogne (1913 - 1942) is a French officer who illustrated himself with Bir Hakeim. It is Compagnon of the Release.

Biography

Wire of officer and elder of a family of ten children, Charles Adolphe Marie Bricogne was born the July 2nd 1913 with Quincy-the-Viscount (Coast-with Or).

Former student of the Polytechnic school (promotion 1932), he is then major of his promotion to the École of application of the artillery, with Fontainebleau. In 1936, he is lieutenant with the 72e regiment of artillery, with Lunéville.

In May 1940, captain ordering an artillery battery, it resists an important group of tanks. During the retirement, it continues to destroy many enemy tanks. Its regiment having made retirement towards the Handle, with end of ammunition, it is made prisoner in June 1940.

He escapes, passes the Line of demarcation and asks his assignment in Syria, where he is useful near colonel Collet.

Charles Bricogne joined the free France in May 1941.

The commander Laurent-Champrosay charges it with forming the 2nd group of the 1 {{er}} regiment of artillery of the Free French Army ( 1st RAFFL ). He leaves for the desert Libya in December 1941, with the general Kœnig.

He fights and illustrates himself in particular in Halfaya, Mechili, Gazala.

In Bir Hakeim, in spring 1942, Charles Bricogne takes part in all the exits of jock columns , units mixed of Mitrailleuse S and infantrymen assailing forces some on a precise point in a tactic of harassing. It makes function of Second in command regiment. It resists successfully several attacks of the enemy on the fort. In the night from June 10th to 11th 1942, at the time of the exit, it is at the head tractors towing the guns, and disappears then. Its body was not found.

It is supposed died the June 11th 1942.
