Biography
I saw myself already
Charles Aznavour was born with Paris in France, the May 22nd 1924, in a family of artist who quickly made him discover the Théâtre. His/her father, Misha Aznavourian Armenian born in Georgia, was the son of a cook of the tsar Nicolas II of Russia. His/her mother, Knar Baghdassarian came from a family of Armenian tradesmen of Turkey. It is by chance, that the small Charles was born in Paris, whereas his/her parents were there in waiting of a visa for the the United States. The couple raised his/her two children, Charles and his/her Aïda older sister, between her Parisian restaurant and the medium of the theater. It is at the nine years age, that the young person Aznavour (who became his name of scene) began his career from Chanteur and actor. In 1946, its career knew a first awakening when he was noticed by the singer Edith Piaf. Then forming the duet Rock and Aznavour (with Pierre Rock), they accompanied Piaf in a round in France and with the the United States. The conquest of America was carried out however in Quebec in 1948, where the duet occurred during one year and half. They made appear of 1948 with 1950 six 78 turns, of which the titles I drank (1948), Départ express train (1948) and the felt mole (1948).
At the beginning of the Years 1950, with notoriety came the first criticisms. Charles Aznavour lives itself treated of all the possible names of birds by a certain Parisian criticism which did not await its representations to strike it wounding words and of foolish maxims. After one evening which finished in “bide”, Aznavour wrote of all its clearness: “Which are my handicaps? My voice, my size, my gestures, my lack of culture and instruction, my frankness, my lack of personality. My voice, impossible to change it. The professors whom I consulted are categorical: they disadvised to me singing. I will however sing leave with me to tear the glottis of it. From small a tenth, I can obtain an extent of almost three octaves. I can have the possibilities of a traditional singer, in spite of the fog which veils my stamp”.
This eagerness and a taste pronounced for work inspired the following currency to him: “Nothing can overcome 17 work hours per day! ”.
For me, formidable
The year 1956 marked a first great dash in the life of the singer. At the time of a recital in Casablanca, the reaction of the public was such as Aznavour was propelled to the row of high-speed motorboat. For its first in Olympia, Aznavour wrote On my life (1956) which became its first popular success. The contracts followed one another and, after another three months passage in Olympia, its career took its take-off in Alhambra definitively where it created I saw already (1960).
At the time of this evening of December 12th, 1960, after 7 songs interpreted in front of a cold public, the artist left his asset: I saw already (1960), telling the history of a missed artist ( “At 18 years, I left my province…” ). At the end of the song, projectors were directed on the public. No applause. In slides, Aznavour was ready to stop the trade. But while he greeted last once, he heard the seats claquer, saw people rising and the room of Alhambra was invaded of a thunder of applause. It was a true triumph. It was 36 years old.
During years 1960, it connected the tubes: You leashes outward journey (1960), It is necessary to know (1961), the mamma (1963), And yet (1963) and Bohemian the (1966). Songs which make for the majority reference to the Amour.
Having played in more than sixty films and singing in five languages, Charles Aznavour is the French singer most known in the world.
I did not see time to pass
Since terrible the earthquake of 1988 which occurred in Arménie, Aznavour did not cease bringing its support thanks to the Aznavour foundation for Arménie. Its song For you Arménie (1989), recorded with the collaboration of more than eighty artists, rose at the top of the prize lists. A place was named in its honor in the center of Erevan in 2001, on the street Abovian.
In 1995, it bought the music publishings Raoul Breton. Two years later, it was named officer of the Légion of honor, then commander in 2004.
Having always preserved a major friendship for the Quebec, it bound friendship in 1996 with the Québécois singer Lynda Lemay and decided to help it in its career.
In 1998, it revisited its old successes in their giving a color jazz on the album Jazznavour , realized with the collaboration of Diane Reeves, Jacky Terrasson, Michel Petrucciani, Eddy Louis, Richard Galliano and the Pianiste, Auteur-compositeur, Arrangeur and member of the Jury of the Nouvelle Star, André Manoukian. The same year, CNN and the readers of Times Online through planet elected Charles Aznavour Artiste of varieties of the century . Aznavour was recognized like the performer par excellence century with close to 18 % of the votes, thus downgrading Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Since death of Frank Sinatra (with which it recorded the duet You make me feel so Young in 1993), Aznavour is regarded as one of the last superstars of the song.
In 2002, it held the main role of its most personal film: Ararat of Atom Egoyan on the Armenian genocide.
I travel
In spring 2005, Charles Aznavour amorça a round of North-American good-bye that it began in Quebec and that it concludes with the autumn from the following year in the United States and the Canada.
The 30 September 2006, a concert given in the open air to Erevan by the “national hero” (title that it has in Arménie) did not gather less than 100.000 spectators.
In 2007, Aznavour announced concerts through the Japan, the Europe, the Asia and the South America. He declared that this round of good-bye should carry out it, if health allows it, until beyond 2010.
October 9th with the November 10th 2007, “the large Charles” once more presses the Palais of the Congresses of Paris where he proposes with the public a concert plus intimist, accompanied by a very rythmée orchestration and subjecting titles which, since decades for some, had not been interpreted ( It rains , Viens , Between us , to make a jam , etc).
Charles Aznavour who belongs to the most appreciated personalities of his country (survey of beginning 2007) puts at the writing Nouvelles which will be published in October 2007, where it approaches family topics, sometimes sensitive.
After more than 60 years of career, Charles Aznavour became, and remained, one of the largest French singers. According to him, it would have more than one hundred of texts of songs which would be to complete…
