Charles Antoine Louis Alexis Morand was a French major general and lieutenant-general, count, Pair of France, commander-in-chief of the one of the large army corps, assistance-of-camp of Napoleon I {{er}}, colonel general of the hunters to foot of the imperial Guard, commander of the Couronne of iron and the Ordre of Saint-Henri of Saxony; born the June 4th 1771 with Largillat-Montbenoît and died the September 2nd 1835 with Paris.

This general was of all the campaigns of the Empire.

He had entered very young person the career of the bar: Hardly graduate in right (1791), he enlists in the 2nd battalion of the district of Pontarlier. Captain in August 1792, then lieutenant-colonel of his battalion in September, it is distinguished in the Armée with the Rhine, then with the Armée with North.

He was named ordering 7th battalion of the volunteers of the Doubs. He took a glorious share with the Siège of Quesnoy, with the Blocus of Maubeuge, the Combat of Wattignies, the Bataille of Hondschoote. Wounded in 1794, it turns over a time to the civil life. It is sent in Italy (1797 - 1798), then takes part in the Campagne of Egypt with division Desaix. It is present at the Pyramides (July 21st 1798) and is named provisional chief of brigade on the battle field by Napoleon Bonaparte.

The 21 fructidor year VII, it was named adjudant-general and invested by Kléber of the command of the province of Djerjeh. The 18 fructidor year VIII, it accepted the Brigadier general rank of . On its return in France, it ordered the Département of Morbihan, and accepted in year XI the command of a brigade of infantry to the Armée with the coasts of the Ocean. At the time of the countryside of 1805, it fights with Austerlitz, the Morand brigade belonged to the army corps of the marshal Soult and takes part in the attack of the Pratzen.

At the time of the countryside of 1806, it orders the 1st division of the body of Davout. It takes part in Auerstaedt (October 14th 1806), in Golymin and Eylau (February 8th 1807). It remains under the command of Davout for the countryside of 1809 and takes part in the battles of Abensberg, of Eckmühl, of Ratisbon, and Wagram (5 and July 6th 1809). It is named governor of Hamburg the July 13rd 1810 and until the March 3rd 1812 remains it. It takes part in the Campagne of Russia and fights with Smolensk and Moskova. It is wounded there with the jaw. At the time of the Passage of Bérézina, it makes at the head pass the remains of its division with the music. Assistant of Bertrand to the 1st division of IVe body for the Countryside of Germany (1813), it takes part in the battles of Lützen and Bautzen. Its control with Dennewitz makes it possible to avoid the crushing of the body of Ney.

It is again with Wartenbourg, Lindenau and Leipzig. Its role is important at the time of the Bataille of Hanau (30 - October 31st 1813). Appointed governor of Mainz, it defends the Forteresse Mainz and gives it only the May 4th 1814. Rejoined with the Hundred Days, it is made Pair France; it orders an element of the Old guard to Waterloo (June 18th 1815) and takes again the village of Plancenoit.

Condemned to death in absentia, it is exiled in Poland, fatherland of his wife where all its family followed it. In 1816, the August 20th, it was condemned to death, by contumacy, a Conseil of war, was joined together with La Rochelle; but it arrived at the improvist at Strasbourg, was constituted captive, appeared in front of the council of war and glorieusement was glorieusement discharged. Discharged, it is reinstated in the army with the same rank.

It remained in the retirement until August 1830. It then accepted the large cord of Legion-in Honneur which had been granted to him in 1815 by the Emperor and the command of the military division of Besancon.
