Charles Antoine Chasset

Charles Antoine Chasset (born with Villefranche-sur-Saône on May 25th 1745 - died with Tournus on September 10th 1824) is a man of law, French politician. Deputy of the the Council of the five hundred, the the Council of Old the and the national Convention

The suppression of the dime clergy voted, and was interested in the eclesiastic questions and the relationship between church and state.

  • Presidency of the National Assembly: from 11/8/1790 to 11/20/1790; from 9/22/1796 to 10/21/1796
  • 3/21/1789 - 9/30/1791: Deputy of the third-state Beaujolais wine (Seneschalsy)
  • 10/14/1795 - 4/9/1798: Elected official member of convention for the Rhone-and-Loire

Vote against the capital punishment for the king Louis XVI and declares on this subject: " It is not allowed to me to vote for death. It is not only one sorrow to be inflicted: it is a question of entirely making disappear the royalty. Louis does not inspire any more auqu' one feeling to be feared, while his/her son would receive, by his death and would inspire the greatest interest. I vote for detention until the paix." Decorated with the legion of honor, it receives the title of count of the empire under Bonaparte.
