Charles-Theodore in Bavaria
Charles Theodore, duke in Bavaria (born the August 9th 1839 with Possenhofen, deceased the November 30th 1909 with Kreuth) was a brother of the Elisabeth empress of Austria, celebrates it Sissi, but also of the queen Marie of Deux-Siciles and the duchess of Alençon. He was the son of Maximilien in Bavaria and Ludovica of Bavaria.
Friend of childhood of the future Louis II, he became heir to the dukes in Bavaria when his/her Louis-Guillaume older brother made a marriage morganatic in 1860.
In 1865, it married his/her cousin the Sophie princess of Saxony (March 15th 1845 - March 9th 1867).
From this union was born:
- Amélie Marie in Bavaria, princess in Bavaria, (December 24th 1865 - May 26th 1912) which married Guillaume of Wurtemberg-Urach, duke of Urach (March 3rd 1864 - March 27th 1928), elder of a morganatic branch of the family of Wurtemberg.
Widower, it married in 1874 Maria Josepha of Portugal, Infante of Portugal, princess of Bragance (March 19th 1857 - March 11th 1943) girl of the king détrôné Michel.
From this union were born:
- Sophie Adelaide in Bavaria, princess in Bavaria, (February 22nd 1875 - September 4th 1957) which married in 1897 Hans Veit count de Toering-Jettenbach (April 4th 1862 - October 29th 1929).
- Elisabeth Valerie in Bavaria, princess in Bavaria, July 25th 1876 - November 23rd 1965) which married in 1900 prince Albert of Belgium (Albert Ier of Belgium) (April 8th 1875 - February 17th 1934) and became Reine of the Belgians in 1909.
- Marie Gabrielle in Bavaria, princess in Bavaria, October 9th 1878 - October 24th 1912. She married in 1900 the prince Rupprecht of Bavaria (May 18th 1869 - August 2nd 1955) oldest son of the king Louis III.
- Louis-Guillaume in Bavaria, prince in Bavaria (January 17th 1884 - November 5th 1968) which married in 1917 the princess Eleonore de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (April 13rd 1880 - February 20th 1965) .sans children, the couple adopted max Emmanuel, prince in Bavaria (January 21st 1937).
- François Joseph in Bavaria, prince in Bavaria (March 23rd 1888 - September 23rd 1912).
officer in the Bavarian army, it served against the Prussia in 1866 and the France in 1870.
Deeply marked by the untimely death of his first wife in 1867, it left the army to the great displeasure its family, became doctor then, in spite of the sarcastic remarks of its fellow-members, a occulist of great reputation. With his second wife as assistant, it founded a hospital where it looked after free the stripped people. Very near to his/her sister, the empress of Austria, it also supported its junior, the duchess of Alençon at the time of its stay at the hospital for " disorders nerveux". Lucid but not stripped of humor, he claimed " we have a whole a grain in the famille" !
