The Charles-Louis archduke of Habsbourg-Lorraine had as a grandfather the emperor François Ier of Austria, it was the younger brother of François-Joseph Ier of Austria, father of the François-Ferdinand archduke of Austria which was assassinated with Sarajevo the June 28th 1914 by the pro-Serb student Gavrilo Princip and grandfather of the emperor Charles Ier.
He died during a pilgrimage in Holy Land, having wanted to drink water of the the Jordan.
