Charles-Felix Morice of the Street

Charles-Felix Morice of the Street , born the September 4th 1800 with Laval (Mayenne), and dead on February 1st 1880 with Digosville (Handle), was a civil engineer for the district of Cherbourg-Valognes, architect of the Norman headlights of Gatteville and of La Hague.

Biography

He is the son of Charles-Thomas Morice of the Street. He enters at 19 years to the Polytechnic school then integrates the École of the Highways Departments in 1821. He is named in Seine-lower engineer in charge of navigation in 1825, then on the district of Cherbourg in 1826.

In North Cotentin, it deals with the modernization of the roads, of which the axes Beaumont-La Hague - Cherbourg - Barfleur, Bricquebec - Carteret, Saint-Saver-the-Viscount - Portbail. Its work is then concerned the ports of Cotentin, of which Granville, Carentan, Saint-Vaast-the-Hougue, Barfleur and Diélette. It also projects the digging of a ship canal crossing the peninsula.

It also sticks to the construction of the headlight of Goury and the second Phare of Gatteville. They are there two exploits, since the headlight of Gatteville will be, by its height 70 meters, highest of the French headlights, and that the construction of the headlight of La Hague, on the open sea, on a rock swept by the currents, was balanced without drama in spite of the incredulity of Haguais.

It Marie in 1837 with Nathalie Levavasseur d' Hiéville, owner of the castle of Garancière with Digosville. It takes its retirement in 1863.
