Charleroi/Dances

Charleroi/Danses is the choreographic Center of the French Communauté of Belgium. It is resulting from old the royal Ballet of Wallonia and was directed in a radical way towards the contemporary creation. Flemish Frederic directed it 1991 to 2004 and in made an institution of reference, not only in Belgium, but also on the international plan. In September 2004, it was appointed artistic director of the national Ballet of Marseilles.

After a call for candidate for his succession, the board of directors and the jury proposed with the Minister Culture Fadila Laanan a direction quadricéphale: the new coordinator of Charleroi/Danses is Vincent Thirion, surrounded by Michele Anne De Mey, Pierre Droulers and Thierry De Mey. They took up duty on July 1st 2005.

Charleroi/Danses has buildings with Charleroi, called “the Stables” and centered on contemporary creation, as well as an antenna with Brussels, called “the Refinery”, more centered on the search and the residences for companies.
