Chapeauroux
The Chapeauroux is a small French river , affluent Allier out of left bank, which runs in the department of the Lozere, in area Languedoc-Roussillon, like in the Haute-Loire in Auvergne.
Geography
It runs almost entirely in the department of the Lozere. It is born in the solid mass from the Margeride with the level from the collar from the Dead Horse and bathes the lozérienne small town Châteauneuf-with-Randon. It crosses zones very little populated. At the end of the course, it crosses the superb throats of Chapeauroux and shortly after is thrown in the Allier in Haute-Loire, on the level of the commune of Saint-Christophe-in Allier, after a course of 56 kilometers.

Hydrology
Chapeauroux is not a very abundant river. Its flow was observed over one 25 years period (1983-2007), with Saint-Bonnet-with-Montauroux, locality of the department of the Lozere located at little distance from its outlet in Combining it (ref.: ). The catchment area of the river is of 387 km ².
The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Saint-Bonnet-of-Montauroux is of 3,33 m ³ a second. Chapeauroux presents seasonal fluctuations of flow rather strong, with high waters of winter-spring, from December to May included, carrying the average monthly flows with values located between 4,36 to 4,98 m ³ a second (with a light in May maximum), and low waters of summer, July to September, with an average monthly minimum of 0,65 in August.
With the low water level, the VCN3 can fall until 0,13 m ³, in the event of dry quinquennial period, that is to say 130 liters a second. Let us recall that the VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.
The risings can be very important. The QIX 2 and QIX 5, or flows calculated for a biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 47 and 85 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 110 m ³ a second. As for the QIX 20 it is worth 130 m ³, while the QIX 50 is assembled to 170 m ³ a second. (see note).
The recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 351 m ³ a second on September 24th, 1994, while the maximum daily output was of 191 m ³ on November 5th of the same year.
Chapeauroux is a river extremely irregular but poorly abundant. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is assembled only to 272 millimetres annually, which is little in the area of the Massif Central and definitely lower than the overall average of France, but however slightly higher than the average of the totality of the basin of the the Loire (245 millimetres). The specific Débit (or Qsp) is of 8,6 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
