Chaos (geology)

In Geology, a chaos indicates an accumulation of rocks released by the erosion. It is about a type of modelled. One finds chaos of blocks of sandstone in the Forêt of Fontainebleau.
Granitic chaos
The blocks of rock which form a granitic chaos are formed because of the presence of cracks called Diaclase S. water inflitre in these more or less broad cracks and ends up making burst the rock. This phenomenon led to release from the blocks of granite which continue to erode in " skin of oignon".
It results from it from the stones of all sizes, of the " boules" stones which end up piling up the ones with the others in sometimes precarious balances, on 1 or 2 very restricted fulcrums. Some can same move slightly when they are pushed. In the local folklores, one often names these stones of the " stones branlantes" or " stones folles".
One can see granitic chaos in Brittany (Ploumanac' H), on the Mont Lozere, in Creuse with " the stones jaumâtres " for example or in the area of Sidobre.
Chaos of the Forêt of Fontainebleau are in sandstone.
These chaos were confused a long time with sites megalithic carved by the hand of the man. Many legends are often associated for them: hone which even turns on it, treasure hidden, habitats of the fairies and old mâtres Gallo-Roman, traces of former giants, etc…
