Chanzy general
The Général Chanzy is a Transatlantic liner builds with Saint-Nazaire in 1891 and which ran with Minorque in the archipelago of the Balearic Islands, the February 10th 1910 whereas it carried out the connection between Marseilles and Algiers.
Chartered by the transatlantic general Company, it had left the port of Marseilles on February 9th at the beginning of afternoon. And the storm which prevailed in trimmings would have made miss the bad weather conditions the Cayol captain the channel separating the islands from Minorque and Majorque, to send it to break on the rocks of the Sala point, around 5 a.m. in the morning of the February 10th.
The assessment is of 155 victims.
The only survivor is Marcel Bodez, a clerk of the customs, who was passed over edge and with found refuge in a cave of the coast all the day of the 10. The 11, he informed the authorities while arriving at Ciudadella, where he was at once neat for light contusions.
In 1896, the General-Chanzy had been failed on the coasts of Norway, during a cruising, but without making victims.
It bears the name of the French general Antoine Chanzy.
