Channel of the Sum
History
In 1785, a stop of the council of the king Louis XVI orders the execution of the channel of the Sum .In 1827, Charles X inaugurates itself the Canal of the Sum which will be completed, such as we know it today.
The connection with the channel of North then becomes the only outlet for the barges. In the years 60,300 000 tons of goods still forwarded by the channel of the Sum: beets forwarded to the sugar refineries, cereals, manure, coal… Since, the commercial traffic did not cease decreasing, leaving room to the boats of the yachtmen.
