Channel of the Rhone with Sète

The channel of the Rhone with Sète is a channel French which connects the pond of Thau to the height of Sète to the the Rhone with Beaucaire. Beyond Thau, it is prolonged by the Canal of the South.

Course

The course of the channel can be divided into two parts:

in the Herault of Sète to the Large-Mound, it is a channel crossing the pond S of the south of the Arrondissement of Montpellier,
in the Gard, of Acute-Dead with Beaucaire, it crosses wet plains of the Petite Camargue.

The channel begins along the administrative limit between Sète and Frontignan before passing close to the old center of Frontignan. Joined by a channel coming from the industrial port of Sète, the channel crosses the pond of Ingril. After having passed the huts of Aresquiers, it crosses the territories of Vic-la-Gardiole then of Villeneuve-the-Maguelone and passes between the pond of Vic to north and the pond of Pierre Blanche to the south. The channel reaches the island of Maguelone then where is the ruins of the old cathedral. Then, it separates the pond from Arnel in north and the pond of Prévost in the south.

With Palavas-the-Floods, it crosses the coastal river Lez. It always leads in straight line between the pond of Méjean (or Pérols) to north and the pond of the Greek to the south. It passes to the height of the station melgorienne of Carnon and of the huts of Pérols. It crosses the Canton of Mauguio to the south of the pond of Gold.

The channel passes in the Département of Gard in open country to the south of Marsillargues and Saint-Laurent-with Aigouze. In the center of Acute-Dead, it crosses the channel connecting the medieval city to the Grau-of-King. There, its course obliques frankly towards the North-East and penetrates inside the grounds, in the Petite Camargue.

It crosses three gardoises cities: Saint-Gilles, Bellegarde and Beaucaire. The south of Saint-Gilles, an antenna and lock S make it possible to join the Petit the Rhone in the north of the the Camargue.
