Channel of Neste

the channel of the Neste is a Canal irrigation French of the the Pyrenees length a 28 kilometers.

Geography

Located in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées in area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Its course goes from Sarrancolin, place of the hydrant in the Neste of Aure, with the Plateau of Lannemezan.

History

The channel of Neste was created between 1848 and 1862 and brought into service in 1863. Of a capacity of 7 the purpose of m3/s, it is artificially to feed the Gascon Rivers fascinating birth on the Plateau of Lannemezan (Gers, Baïse, Save, Gimone, Bouès).

Towards 1950 its capacity was carried from 7 to 14 m3/s.

tank S of high Mountain storing water of spring (Lake Orédon…) for the summer period were then created.

Management was entrusted in 1960 to the Compagnie of Installation of the Slopes of Gascogne.
