Channel of Entreroches

The Canal of Entreroches is a unused channel. It crosses Mormont between Orny and Eclépens. It was to make it possible to connect by inland waterway the the Mediterranean and the the North Sea by a channel of the the Rhone the the Rhine.

History

  • 1635, its originator Elie Gouret, gentleman huguenot drawn up with the Netherlands, present at the Bernese authorities its project to connect the lakes of Neuchâtel to the Lake Léman, of Yverdon to Morges.
  • 1638, the work begins
  • 1640, the first Yverdon-Orny section is completed, it uses the bed of the Thièle
  • 1648, the 2nd Orny-Eclépens section is finished
  • Faute of financial means, the continuation of the project towards the south is abandoned.
  • 1829, end of the exploitation, because a storm 1829 destroyed a bridge aqueduct and blocked the channel.
