Channel of Corinth
The channel of Corinth is a Greek channel dug through the Isthme of Corinth to connect the Golfe of Corinth, in the Ionian Mer, in the West, the Golfe Saronique, in the Aegean Sea, in the East. The channel of Corinth thus makes Peloponnese a island, since it bores right through the Isthme connecting this Péninsule to the remainder of the Greek territory.
The channel measures: 6343 meters of length and 21 meters broad. The trench reaches a maximum depth of 52 meters. It makes it possible to avoid with the Navire S of less: 10000 tons and 8 meters of Draft a long turning of 400 kilometers around the peninsula.

History
It was built between 1882 and 1893, on the initiative of the French.As of sixth century BC, one facilitated the passage of the boats thanks to a paved way, on which carriages transported the boats.
