Channel Van Harinxma

The Channel Van Harinxma (in Dutch: Van Harinxmakanaal ) is a channel Dutch of the Frise. Its length is of 37,5 km.

The channel starts in the east of Leeuwarden, where it is connected to the Canal of the Princess Margriet, and goes until Harlingen. Via a lock is carried out the connection with the Mer of Wadden.

Before 1950, the channel between Harlingen and Leeuwarden was called the Harlinger Trekvaart , which was widened and deepened. The opening of the renovated channel took place in 1951. The channel was baptized according to Pieter van Harinxma thoe Slooten, which was Commissaire of the Queen of the Frise between 1909 and 1945.
