Changsha

Changsha (长沙; Pinyin: Chángshā; literally: long sand) is the capital of the Chinese province of the Hunan. It is located at the east of Hunan, at the edge of the river Xiang whose long sandy island gave him its name.

This city is also symbolic system of the birth of the Communisme Chinese, and presents some places of pilgrimage for the nostalgic ones of Mao Zedong. Mao passed his youth to the school of Changsha Shifan during a few years. It met there his first wife, who later was killed in this same city by the National party.

The city was the site of a walk of opposition to spring 1989.

Climate

The average temperatures of Changsha go from +4,7°C for the coldest month to +29,4°C for the hottest month, with an annual average of +17,3°C, and the Pluviométrie is there of 1365,5  mm (figures stopped in 1988).

Demography

As in the majority of the Chinese provinces, the principal ethnos group of the Hunan is consisted the Han. There also exists of other ethnos groups, in particular in the west of the province: Tujia, Miao, Dong, and Yao. In Changsha even, the majority of the inhabitants are Han. However, as Changsha is an active provincial capital, one can cross people of any origines. For example, certain merchants of street are originating in the Moslem provinces, like the Xinjiang. They are present at Changsha as in the other Chinese big cities.

History

During the Sino-Japanese war (1937-1945), the city was the theater of successions of violent one confrontations culminating with an important defeat of the Japanese army.

Economy

In 2004, total GDP was of 113,4 billion Yuan S, and the GDP per capita of: 18036 yuans.

Changsha has an airport ( Datuopu or Changsha Huanghua International Airport , code AITA: CSX).

  • the town of Liuyang - 浏阳市 Liúyáng Shì   ;
  • the county of Changsha - 长沙县 Chángshā Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Wangcheng - 望城县 Wàngchéng Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Ningxiang - 宁乡县 Níngxiāng Xiàn .
