Chandrika Kumaratunga , born the June 29th 1945, is a political woman sri lankaise. She was Prime Minister for the Sri Lanka August 19th with the November 12th 1994, and President of the Sri Lanka of the November 12th 1994 with the November 19th 2005.
She is the girl of old the Prime Minister and minister Solomon Bandaranaike assassinated in 1959. After the assassination of this last, its widow Sirimavo Bandaranaike, mother of Chandrika, becomes Prime Minister.
Chandrika Bandaranaike married the Politician and Acteur Vijaya Kumaratunga, assassinated in 1988.
The December 18th 1999, it was itself victim of an attempted murder perpetrated by the Tigres tamouls at the time of a gathering to the town hall of Colombo.
In this attempted murder, it lost its right eye.
Chandrika Kumaratunga followed secondary studies in sciences to the college St Bridget' S Convent of Colombo. After higher learning in Aquinas University College of Colombo, it then came to Paris, to follow there studies of Political sciences. After having obtained the diploma of Sciences Po, it began a doctorate under Economic development with the Practical Ecole of the High Studies (EPHE) of Paris, which it could not complete when it was recalled to Sri Lanka to assume responsibilities within the administration. It is then director of the Land Reforms Commission (1972 - 1976), then president of the Janawasa Commission (1976 - 1977), charged with the mse in place of collective farms to establish graduates there or not. Of 1976 with 1979, it is also member of an group of expert of FAO.
During its stay in France, it was initiated with political journalism while writing for the daily newspaper Le Monde. Of return to Sri Lanka, it directed the daily newspaper Dinakara Sinhala of 1977 to 1985.
