Tourist monuments and places

The keep vestige of the built fortress.

2 assumptions for its construction:

  • either a first fortress built in 1194 by Béranger IV, king d' Aragon,

  • or a castle built by the bishop Guillaume IV of Peyre in 1220.

In synthesis, it is probable that the construction of the fortress was started between 1194 and 1213 for king d' Aragon then continued for the bishop of Mende owner of the place as from 1213. Bitterly disputed during the wars of religion, the fortress will become property and residence of summer of the bishops of Mende what will lead to an installation in " castle of plaisance".
