History
The name Chamrousse appears for the first time in 1744 on a chart of Cassini. Further in time, one finds a reference to " Culmen Rupha" (Culmen = Latin top; Rupha, perhaps of rufus = russet-red, or a local toponym?) in a donation of 1260. It seems that the top was known Romans: one would have found eight medals, including one going back to Néron by digging the foundations of the Cross of Chamrousse in 1856. The presence of a cross at the top is attested since the XVIIeme century. A 12 height meters cross was set up on August 25th, 1856 on the current pedestal. Several times raised or replaced during the years, the metal current cross goes back to 1990.But also, With the Middle Ages, the pastures are the property of noble of the valley. In 1234 Foundation of the monastery of Prémol, nuns brood depending on Large Chartreuse. This foundation was made at the instigation of the wife of the dolphin Guigues André: Béatrix de Montferrat, countess of Vienna and Albon, rams of Vizille. The Dauphine one got along with the canons of Oulx and with Sieur Alleman, prior of Vaulnaveys, and was made yield the rights of the latter to then reassign them with the Chartreuse news. Lords, private individuals and owners made in the same way. The convent was thus equipped with a great field with, inter alia, wood and pastures located in the solid mass of Chamrousse (district of Gaboureaux yielded in 1260 by the lord of Uriage: Guigues Alleman)… Chartreuse de Prémol then sheltered an about sixty people including 35 nuns, sisters and brothers minor, servants and 3 monks Carthusian monk for the direction the community. The inhabitants of the surrounding valleys, which had the quasi total pleasure of the grounds, entered in conflict with the convent. These conflicts lasted five centuries, until the closing of the convent, with the revolution. From where, the possible origin of the names Bachat Bouloud and lake Achard: " Procedures utilize private individuals isolated like that from one named Pierre Bouloud, whose 4 oxen which grazed close to the cross of Chamrousse were seized by the convent. Is this him which made install there high the basin (Bachal in patois) which gave its name to Bachat Bouloud? In the same way, one named Achard which had a hut a little with the top of the lake, seems to have given him its nom" P. Fouchy
In 1793 It remains in Prémol only 3 nuns and 2 Carthusian monks awaiting the liquidation of the pensions which were due for them. The monastery and its dependences today are entirely destroyed. Only some exhausted walls are pilot time formerly.

The tourists flow and Chamrousse becomes a " course" known as traditional for the bathers, one needed 5 to 6 a.m. to gain the top of Chamrousse. At that time, it was only one immense pasture. There were several herds in Balme, the Recess, Rock-Béranger, in Bachat Bouloud, and of each one of these places, a country cottage sheltered the shepherds.
In 1865 the father Packs built with Rock-Béranger (Chabou), with his wife and his 2 sons, a country cottage inn.
" The Father Packs manufactured there cheeses, his garden provided vegetables… It went down to the provisions in Uriage, whatever the time, with his ass. By curiosity, it passed to Chamrousse the winter 1883-1884. One day, in the storm, he intended to scrape with his door.
