The 28èmes Championnats of the world of judo were held of the 13 with the September 16th 2007 with Rio de Janeiro with the Brésil. After having accommodated the fourth edition of the championships of the world in 1965, the megalopolis organizes for the second time the bi-annual event, 11th edition since the reunification of the world masculines and female in 1987.
At less than one year of the Olympic Games of Beijing, the world competition takes another dimension since the five first of each category (except the all categories which does not appear any more in the Olympic program) make it possible their country to be seen allotting a not-personal quota to directly qualify a judoka for the Plays. Thus they are 84 judokas who obtained this quota at the conclusion of the four days of competition.
Nation host, the Brésil carries out the best world competition of its history. Eighth nation with the classification of the medals in 2005, the combatants auriverde finish this time in the second general place with four medals including three world titles, all obtained by men (the Brazilian judo counted up to now only one world champion, João Derly crowned at the time of the back issue). At the head table of the medals appears once again the Japan with nine medals including three titles. However the Japanese judokas must have patience until the last day to avoid the affront setting out again of Rio without gold medal. The continuation of the classification is logical since one finds the traditional nations of the judo to the head of which the France, Cuba and the China.
Organization
Designation of the host city:The town of Rio de Janeiro was seen decreed the organization of the championships of the world on September 9th, 2003 with Saint-Domingue.
