Championships of Europe of athletics 2006

19 be Championnats of Europe of athletics took place of the 7 to the August 13rd 2006 with Gothenburg in Sweden, in the stage Ullevi which had already been the stage of the Championnats of the world of 1995. The candidature of Gothenburg was essential vis-a-vis that of Barcelona at the time of the congress of the European Athletic Association of the October 6th 2001. Amsterdam had already withdrawn its candidature.

• Alesia Turava gains the first championship of Europe of the 3000  m steeple.

• During the test of the high jump Tia Hellebaut beats by twice the national record of Belgium (which it held with 2,00 m) by erasing a bar to 2,01 m then 2,03 m, becoming champion of Europe.
