The Championnat of the world of hockey 2007 was held for the first division (world group) of the April 27th with the May 13rd 2007 with Moscow and Mytichi in Russia. It was the 71e edition of the championships of the world, organized by the International federation of hockey. The Canada gained its 24e title and Shane Doan, its captain, was elected Meilleur player of the tournament.

The other matches of divisions I, II and III took place earlier:

  • Division I: matches of the 15 to the April 21st. The group has this division played in China with Qiqihar whereas the group B played in Ljubljana.
  • Division II: matches of the 11 to the April 17th 2007 with Zagreb in Croatia for the group has and of the 2 to the April 8th with Seoul in South Korea for the group B.
  • Division III: matches from April 15th to 21st with Dundalk in Ireland.

Group elite

The principal group gathers 16 teams, divided into 4 groups (of has with D).

At the time of the preliminary round, each team once faces the teams located in the same group and the three best teams of each group are qualified for the turn qualifier. A system of victory at three points is used for hens. The teams which gain in regulatory time mark three points directly. The beaten team does not register a point. If the match is null at the conclusion of regulatory time, the two teams automatically register a point and that which gains the match in Prolongation or at the conclusion of the shootings of shooting.

Two new groups are made up: one gathering qualified groups has and D and the other those of the groups B and C. the teams face those coming from a different group, the results of the preliminary round being preserved. The four best teams of each group of qualification (thus eight teams) then take part in a eliminatory Série where the qualifiers groups are mixed (in quarterfinal, the first team of each group faces the fourth of the other group and of same the second of a group faces the third of the other).

The winners advance in semi-finals, then the winners of the half-fianles clash for the gold medal, the losers clashing them for the bronze medal.

The last made teams of the preliminary groups (has, B, C and D) clash and the two less good teams are relegated in Division I.

The best players of the tournament were appointed by the organizing committee. Moreover, one standard team of the tournament was designated by the media covering the competition. In spite of the victory of the Canada, only rewarded Canadian is Rick Nash: he is indicated Meilleur player tournament and also forms part of the standard team.

The Finland is rewarded via its guard Kari Lehtonen crowned better guard for the tournament. Moreover Petteri Nummelin belongs to both better defender of the tournament. It is associated in the standard team with the Russian , Andrei Markov crowned better defender.

Division III functions in the same way that division I and II to two differences near: there exists one group and there is no possible relegation. It is the first participation of Mongolia in the championship of the world.
