Championship of the world of hockey 1965
The thirty-second championship of the world of Hockey and consequently occasion the forty-third championship of Europe took place of the 4 to the March 14th 1965 in the town of Tampere in Finland for group A.
Context
For the group of the championship has eight nations normally were to be qualified but the International federation of hockey encountered certain problems: at the time of the championship of 1963, the East Germany finishes in the sixth place but fails at the time of the match of qualification against the West Germany the Olympic Games of 1964. Moreover, this same West Germany even if it finishes in the sixth place in 1964 finished in 1963 in the last place of the group has and thus would have to go down in the championship B. In same time, the Norway would have to rise in the group has after its first place in the championship B in 1963 and the Suisse finishing in the second place of the championship B 1963 and in front of Norway in 1964 can also claim in a place in group A.Thus, it was decided to immediately admit East Germany in the group has while the Swiss ones and German of the west should play two matches qualifiers (and hypothetically a third in the event of equality). The winner is then opposed to Norway for the eighth place of the group has and the two other teams belong to the group B.
In same time, since only 18 nations were registered for this edition of the championship, it is decided not to have three groups but only two groups with eight teams each one.
For the group B the two teams eliminated from the group has thus are automatically qualified, as well as the Austria first of the group C in 1963. The teams classified with the third, fourth and fifth place of the group B of 1963 are also described as office (respectively the Romania, Poland and the Yugoslavia) while the other registered nations then dispute a tournament to determine the two qualified teams.
