Championship of the world of hockey 1953

The twentieth championship of the world of Hockey and consequently occasion it thirty-and-unième championship of Europe took place between the 7 and the March 15th 1953 in Switzerland in the towns of Zurich and Basle.

Context

Only four nations took part in this edition of the championship of the world and the teams of the Canada, of the the United States, the Poland and Norway are the great missing nations. Canada did not take part because of the money sums to spend to send players to play in Europe the matches.

The interest for the competition also decreased after the abandonment of the Czechoslovakia following the disease of the president Klement Gottwald. March 14th, 1953, whereas the team had returned to the disqualified house then, the president dies of a Pneumonie contracted at the time of funerals of Joseph Stalin.
Into consequent of what, two matches took place between the nations. It was the first championship of the world with only of the European teams.

Five nations also took part in a second tournament which was described as tournament junior. The Suisse introduced a team to each one of these tournaments but the second team.
