Championship of Sweden of hockey
The championship of Sweden Élite of Hockey bears the name of sv Elitserien . The first season that the league disputed under the name of Elitserien was 1975-76; the Élite championship of Sweden exists however since in 1921-22. The league is sometimes called in English: in Swedish Elite League and shortened SALT .

Regular season
Elitserien gathers the twelve best clubs of Sweden which clash during a calendar of 55 matches since the season 2006-07 (50 before), which counts calendar, according to the teams, either 27 home matches and outside 28, or the reverse. In the event of tie at the end of the 60 regulatory minutes, the teams are decided between by one five minutes period additional of Prolongation played in “ sudden death”. The system of the points functions in the following way:-
3 points for a victory in regulatory time
- 2 points for a victory in prolongation
- 1 point for a tie or a defeat in prolongation
- 0 points for a defeat in regulatory time
Moreover, the victorious team receives a no-claims bonus of 50.000 crowns
eliminatory Series
The series begin at the end of the regular season. The eight best teams dispute for obtaining the gold medal of the Swedish championship ( Sm-guld ). For a few years, all the series have been format “four-of-seven”, where it is necessary to gain four victories during a maximum of seven matches to advance with the following turn. The champion team of the regular season to the advantage of beginning in residence in all the decisive matches in series. Färjestads BK holds the record of the greatest number of victories since the league is called Elitserien, with 7 achievements. Djurgården is however the club more titrated, with 12 championships.The classified teams ninth and tenth do not take part in any other tournament post-season; the classified clubs eleventh and twelfth take share with the Kvalserien to play their maintenance in Elitserien or their relegation in Allsvenskan (the second Swedish division).
