Championship of Japan of football
The Nihon pro soccer league (日本プロサッカーリーグ) is the championship of the Japan of Football commonly called J. League (J リーグ), diminutive for Japan League . It was inaugurated the May 15th 1993 by a meeting between the team of Verdy Kawasaki and Yokohama Marinos at the national Stage of Tokyo. Since 1999, it includes/understands two divisions, J1 ( J. One ) and J2 ( J. Two ).
Organization
During the creation of 2 divisions J1 gathered 16 teams which met in two phases ( training courses ) of 15 matches outward journey ( first training course ) then return ( second training course ). Since the beginning of the year 2005, J1 counts from now on 18 teams and the 2 phases are joined together in only one season which proceeds Mars at December. The 2 last of division are relegated in J2, and are replaced by the 2 first of this one. Moreover, 16th of J1 disputes then two matches stopping ( play-off ) against 3rd of J2. Gaining these stoppings remains, or is promoted, in J1.
It should be noted that with the exit of the season 2004, J1 counted only 16 clubs, and was to pass to 18 in 2005. No club was to thus be relegated directly. The two first of J2 were promoted normally in J1 (Kawasaki Frontale and Omiya Ardija), and the last of J1 (Kashiwa Reysol) simply had to dispute the stoppings against the third of J2 (Avispa Fukuoka). Kashiwa having gained both matches, it thus had no relegation of J1 there towards J2 in 2004.
Conversely, at the end of the season 2005, 16th of J1 (again Kashiwa Reysol) lost in matches stoppings against 3rd of J2 (Ventforet Kōfu) which was thus promoted in J1 for 2006, and there were thus 3 relegations of J1 towards J2 in 2005.
The champion of J1 takes down a qualificative place for the edition of the following year of the Ligue of the Champions of the AFC, equivalent Asian of the Ligue of the Champions of the UEFA.
