Championship of France of the 2nd federal division

The Championship of France of the 2nd federal division , called Federal 2 more simply , is the second national level of the championship of France of Rugby to XV amateur. Anteroom of the Federal 1, it is organized by the French federation of Rugby since 2000, date on which it replaced the old federal championship.

This championship gathering 96 teams (8 hens of 12) proceeds in two phases, a preliminary phase and a final stage .

At the conclusion of each season, 12 teams are promoted into Federal 1 and 24 relegated in Fédérale 3.

Preliminary phase

  • 96 teams left again in 4 geographical sectors composed of 2 hens of 12 teams each one - is 8 hens of 12 teams.

  • the clubs finishing first of each hen - that is to say 8 teams - are promoted in Fédérale 1 and qualify for the 1/16e final stage.

  • the clubs finishing second of each hen - that is to say 8 teams - qualify for the 1/16e final stage.

  • the clubs finishing with 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th places of each hen - that is to say 32 teams - are qualified for a qualificative meeting with the 1/16e of finale. The 16 winners of this meeting join in 1/16e of finale the 16 clubs already qualified as first and hen seconds.

  • the clubs finishing with 10th, 11th and 12th places of each hen - that is to say 24 teams - are relegated in Fédérale 3.

Final stage

  • 32 teams qualified for the 1/16e of finale at the conclusion of the preliminary phase and the stoppings.

  • All the meetings of 1/16e, 1/8e, 1/4, 1/2 and finale is held in a match on neutral ground.

  • the 4 teams having carried out the best performance lasting the final stage (and which did not finish first of a qualificative hen) are promoted into Federal 1.

  • the victorious club finally is declared champion of France from Federal 2.
