Championship of France of cycling on road 2006

The edition 2006 of the Championnat of France of cycling on road was held with Chantonnay in the Vendée.

Female championship

On Friday, June 23, 2006, Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli becomes again champion of France of cycling on road, at the 47 years age.

Championship elite male amateur

On Saturday, June 24, 2006, Dimitri Champion (the Vendée U) becomes champion of France junior 2006 front Arnaud Lesvenan (Coast of Armor Cyclisme) and Nicolas Rousseau (CPU Chateauroux).

Male championship

As often at the time of this test, the team of Jean-Rene Bernaudeau, currently carrying the colors of Bouygues Telecom, is represented at the beginning of the test (26 runners out of 132). For this team, the stake is reinforced by the fact that the test court in residence: in the Vendée.

Whereas with the eleventh tower a first selection had divided the group into two, leaving with before a group of 35 runners approximately, an attack of Christophe Agnolutto (runner of the team Agritubel having already proven its capacity to carry out a solitary escape until the victory, in particular at the time of the Turn-Limoges stage of the Tour de France 2000) was countered only by Christophe Moreau, of the team AG 2R Prévoyance, and the former champion of France Thomas Voeckler, of the team Bouygues Telecom.

They were followed by a group of eight runners, composed of Sylvain Chavanel (Cofidis), of Nicolas Jalabert (Phonak), of Florent Brard (Caisse of Saving-Islands Balears), of Patrice Halgand (Crédit Agricole), of Christophe Mengin (French of the Plays), of Sylvain Calzati (team-member of Christophe Moreau, which was at the head) and of Didier Rous and Anthony Geslin (team-members of Thomas Voeckler, being also at the head).

In all logic, whereas Chavanel and Jalabert was démenaient to return on the trinity, their efforts were countered sometimes by Rous, sometimes by Geslin, more rarely by Calzati. Always it is that these three team-members were as the drift anchor of the group of prosecutors, which pained to return on the trinity. Which was soon nothing any more but one duet, because Agnolutto, which pained in coast and took hardly than relays on the dish, could not about it any more but: outdistanced, it was maintained some time in the group of prosecutors, then released taken.

With seven kilometers of the end of the last but one turn, with the favor of a small rise, Florent Brard, showing a true intelligence of the race, succeeds in distorting company with the group of prosecutors. This true wheeler returned quickly on the duet of head and left a turn exactly… to carry a new attack, exactly at the same place! Because of a bluff typical of the cycling and - unfortunately for him - too long of a few seconds, Voeckler, which supervised Moreau, was long in countering. As it did it, it was too late: not being able to return on Brard, it flancha.

Rous launched out then in a despaired counter-attack, and managed to return on Moreau and Voeckler to charm the second place… but not the first to them: Florent Brard was champion of France. As for Calzati, it was classified fifth.

Rous and Calzati, which in this June 25th, 2006 undoubtedly had the legs to become champion of France, can nourish some regrets to be confined with their races of team-members.

This race, large disillusion for the team Bouygues Telecom, is an aubaine for the Spanish team Caisse of Saving-Islands Balears, which aligned only three runners at the beginning of this championship of France. Robin of Wood showed in its time that a weak manpower can come to end from an army: Florent would Brard be Robin of the Wood of French cycling?
