Championship of France of Rugby at XV 1959-60

The championship of France of Rugby to XV of the first division 1959 - 1960 is disputed by 56 clubs grouped in seven hens of eight clubs. The four first of each hen and the four best classified clubs fifths (that is to say 32 clubs) are qualified for the final stage.

Compared to the former season the number of club is increased of eight units seems it to save some clubs which without that would have be retrogressed (Bègles in particular which had not gained that 3 matches out of 14 in 1958-59), consequently the clubs which disputed the quarterfinals of the second division are promoted. except for Montréjeau for which one substitutes Limoges (?).

The championship is gained by the FC Doors which beat the ACE Béziers finally.

Context

The Five Nations tournament 1960 is gained by the France and the England, the Challenge Yves of the Manor is gained by the Mons Stade which beats the ACE Béziers (score of 9-9, victory for the benefit of the number of marked tests).

The ACE Béziers of qualifies because the three points acquired by kick of penalty take precedence over those obtained by the palois by a drop goal.

Finale

The team of Doors is strongly altered compared to that of the former season, with the departure with the retirement of the Prat brothers, and of François Labazuy and Henri Rancoule left to Tarbes and Toulon. In addition Pierre Lacaze and Jean Barthe left to play Rugby with XIII, departures compensated by the arrivals of Michel Crauste and Arnaud Marquesuzaa which comes from Racing and of Roland Crancée which was with the Stade bagnérais. Doors carries it thanks to a pack fronts dominator.
