Championship of Finland of hockey D2

The Mestis is the higher second leagues Hockey of the Finland, highest which can be reached by merit since the Sm-liiga was closed with the vainqueures teams of Mestis to keep the same teams, as in North America, where the system of promotion/relegation does not exist in professional hockey. An exception however: KalPa Kuopio was promoted in Sm-liiga after the season 2004-05, turning over in the league where they evolved/moved since years before being relegated at the end of the season 1998-99.
