Championship of Europe of football 2012

The Championnat of Europe UEFA of football 2012 is the 14th edition of the Championnat of Europe of football, competition organized by UEFA and gathering the best European male teams. It will be held in Poland and Ukraine in June and July 2012. The match of opening will be played Warsaw, the finale with the Olympic stadium of Kiev (information to be confirmed).

Designation

April 18th, 2007, the Executive committee of UEFA carried out its choice, with a majority of 8 votes, after having scrupulously studied the files of the three continuing candidates for the organization of the competition: Poland and Ukraine, the Croatia and the Hungary, and the Italy whereas the media gave the favorite latter.

Stages

It is the third time in the history which a championship of Europe is organized by 2 countries, after the duets Belgium - Netherlands in 2000 and Suisse - Austria in 2008. But that presents an main issue: the important distance enters the stages. 1900 kilometers separate Gdansk in Poland from Donetsk in Ukraine. It is necessary to count not less than 22 hours of road to go one to the other. The two countries also will have to also launch out in a vast program of installation of transport: the number of highways and fast tracks in these two countries is currently insufficient: 666 km of highways existing in Poland for 2004 km envisaged and 339 km of fast tracks for 5760,5 km envisaged; while in Ukraine, the situation seems worse within sight of the state of much of major axes of communication.

Moreover, that made more than 25 years (OJ of Moscow in 1980 and of Sarajevo) that a country of the ex Eastern bloc had not accommodated such an important competition.
