Championship of Americas of basketball 2007

The Championship of Americas of basketball 2007 , or Tournament of Americas 2007 , was held August 22nd with the September 2nd 2007 with Las Vegas, Nevada (the United States).

The choice of the place

The tournament was to proceed with the Venezuela, but the failure with the payments (1,5 million dollars) made change this choice on August 31st, 2006. Their direct qualification for the competition was in addition also cancelled.

Several countries then declared candidate for the organistion, of which: the the United States, the Chile, the Argentinian and Puerto Rico. Respectively, the named first had organized the tournament in 1992, Chile had never organized it, it was in 2001 and 2003 for the two last.

Olympic stakes

The two first of the tournament (two finalists) are qualified for the Olympic Games of summer of 2008 with Beijing. The 3,4 and 5th will be qualified for the pre-Olympic tournament, just like 4 European teams, 2 African, 2 Asian and 1 océanienne.

The 1O teams are distributed in 2 groups (has and B), in the following way:

1st turn

the 4 first of each group are qualified for the 2nd turn.

2nd turn

the results of the 1st turn count for 2nd, except the matches against the two eliminated teams. The first 4 teams are qualified for the final stage.
