Championship NCAA of American football
The Championnat NCAA of American football joins together the elite American Universitaire of American football. It includes/understands several divisions (Div I-A, Div I-AA, Div II, Div III). The participation of a team in a division depends initially on the statute of its university. However the best teams are in Div-IA (119 teams divided in 11 conferences).
In January dispute Bowls. In fact finales see to be opposed the respective winners of each conference but also the teams best classified to the country. One distinguishes four bowls major (most prestigious) and others more or less famous.
Until 1997, the NCAA does not decree an official title of national champion. This role fell on the polls of specialized jounalists and trainers. Sometimes (see list hereafter) the various polls do not agree on the name of the champion. Since 1998, the NCAA set up an official title of national champion (Bowl Championship Series), but faithful to the practices taken since 1869, the polls did not cease their classification. They were even partly integrated into the mode of selection of the finalists. Thus, there exist also debates on the true champions of the last years. In order to cross short to this problem, the NCAA sets up at the time of the season 2006 a national final apart from the traditional bowls by hoping that the champion of this final will achieve the unanimity. In spite of this process, the polls continue their activities of classification in 2006.
