Chaminou

Chaminou is a Chat Détective created by Raymond Macherot in Chaminou and Khrompire published in Spirou in 1964.

Chaminou and Khrompire : astonishing Macherot

Chaminou and Khrompire is with share in the work of Macherot, specialist in bucolic animalist cartoon: the history begin with a parody from television program, and occurs entirely in an urban and modern universe, contrary to the Chlorophyl adventures with Coquefredouille, which make beginning XXe century rather; the described characters all are almost malicious, which contrasts with usual “the kindness” of the heroes of Macherot. However, the majority of the characteristics of the great author are found there: omnipresent humor breaks the dramatic tension permanently, creating a second degree of very good quality; the graphics of the Belgian author is extremely alive, and the city which it draws watch his ease out of his usual practices of drawing. This multiplication of qualities generally makes regard this cartoon as a “total success”, preventing any continuation, that whose Macherot itself was aware, declaring in 1972: it “is difficult to make one second history and to find a renewal with this character of it”.

The resumption of the character

A long time after " Chaminou and Khrompire" , Olivier Saive took again the character and published new adventures, with the blessing of Macherot.
