Chambourcy

Chambourcy is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at 3 km to the west of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer and at approximately 25 km in the west of Paris.

The inhabitants are the Camboriciens .

Geography

The commune of Chambourcy is in the south of the Forêt of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer and in the north of the Forêt of Marly. It is bordering on Poissy in north, of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer in the North-East, Fourqueux in the east, Aigremont in the west, Feucherolles and Saint-Name-the-Bretèche in the south. The territory very urbanized in its northern half, is very wooded in its southern part (forest of Marly) and accommodates a course of Golf.

The commune de' Chambourcy' is served by the Trunk road 13, said Route of forty pennies, which crosses it of is in west. It is also crossed by the Autoroute A13 in south-west and by the highway A14 in north, without exchanger in both cases (the access to these highways is done by the exchanger of distant Orgeval of approximately 5 km).

A brook, the Ru of Buzot irrigates the commune. This Ru of 9 km runs towards the east and is thrown in the the Seine with the Pecq, after having crossed the commune of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, generally channeled and buried.

Administration

History

The name of “Chambourcy”, formerly “Bourcy Field”, would come from the expression Latin E campus bruacii , field of undergrowth.
  • 1789 : creation of the Deserted of Retz, romantic Garden including/understanding many “madnesses”, of which the “destroyed column”, the “pyramid”, the “Chinese house”…
  • 1934: foundation of the dairy ALB, which will launch in 1948, “small Chambourcy”, a Petit-suisse.

Culture

Inheritance

  • Church Holy-Clotilde: church of Romance style dating from the 12th century several times altered during the last centuries. In this church are the Relique S of Sainte Clotilde, wife of Clovis  I {{er}}, king of the Francs, that she convainquit to convert with the Catholic religion.
  • the Deserted of Retz, classified Historic building in 1941, was built on the site of Saint-Jacques-of-Retz, an abandoned village and in ruins in the north of the current commune, in edge of the Forêt of Marly.
The house of Andre Derain, located at the n° 64 of the Main street , built at the XVIIIe century and refitted with XIXe and XXe centuries, is classified Historic building since 1986.
  • It remains, on the site of the golf, only of the vestiges, registered voters to the Historic buildings in 1989, of the abbey of Joyenval which dated from XIIIe century.
  • a castle dating from the XIXe century, located not far from the village in the direction of Aigremont and not indexed as an inheritance, is used as old people's home.

Personalities

  • Jacob-Nicolas Moreau (1717-1803), last lord of Chambourcy.
  • Antoine de Gramont, husband of Ida d' Orsay, acquires a property with Chambourcy in 1848 where the couple accommodates the brother of Ida, the count Alfred d' Orsay.
  • Alfred, count d' Orsay (1801-1852) is buried in a pyramidal tomb with the cemetery of Chambourcy in company of Marguerite de Blessington (1789-1849), her friend.
  • Andre Derain (1880-1954), one of the founders of the Fauvisme, installed its workshop in a residence of the XVIIIe century in the village, the Rosery .

Chambourcy gave its name to a company of dairy products (yoghourts, small Swiss), become one of most important on the French market and European before being begun again by the group Nestlé. The mark “Chambourcy” was given up by Nestlé in 1996, then resold in 1998 at a company which started again it to sell products bio.
