HistoryThe Clos of Bèze is one of oldest the wine Clos of the French vineyard.
In 628 the king de Bourgogne mérovingien Dagobert Ier request to three of its vassal lords of which the duke Amalgaire to kill Burnulfe, the uncle of his brother for assoire his authority and its capacity. He royally rewards the three lords in their offering vast domains.
The duke Amalgaire receives the ground of Fons Besua (area of Bèze in Burgundy) and decides to make there build the Abbaye Bèze which it equips with a land and wine field considerable in all the Côte of Gold with at his head one as of his three sons, the Abbé Waldalène, to repurchase its faults with God.
The monks of the Abbaye of Bèze create the Clos Bèze with the VIIe century on their important field of Gevrey-Chambertin to the current site, then exploit it until the French revolution or it is confiscated and declared quite national then parcelled out and resold with many private owners. The wines of closed of Bèze then are already regarded as the best of all the Burgundy.
The Clos of Bèze is located at the southern exit of Gevrey-Chambertin on the Route of the Great wines in direction of Morey-Saint-Denis, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune on the moderately tilted part of the slope with ground Calcaire full talk is… It has for prestigious neighbor the Mazis-Chambertin in north and the Chambertin S in the south.
