Chambéry Metropolis

Chambéry Métropole is a Communauté of French agglomeration , located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

History

Chambéry Métropole is the fourth form taken by the intercommunality chambérienne.

The public corporations of inter-commune co-operation according to followed one another:

  • the Intercommunity association of cleansing and town planning of the area of Chambéry (SIAURC) of February 16th, 1957 at 1978, a long time chaired by White Jean, of his creation at 1977, then by Louis Besson.
  • the Intercommunity association of the agglomeration chambérienne (SIAC), 1978 with the December 31st 1994, chaired by Louis Besson (1978), Jean Fressoz (1978-1983) and Michel Maurin (1983-1995.)
  • the Urbain District of the Cluse of Chambéry (DUCC), of January 1st 1995 with the December 31st 1999, chaired by Marius Pintail.
  • Chambéry Metropolis, since January 1st 2000, chaired initially chaired by Marius Pintail until 2001, then by Thierry Repentin (2001-2004) and finally by Louis Besson since 2005.

Presidents

  • 2001-2004 : Thierry Repentin (socialist), second assistant of the Chambéry mayor, elected with 41 votes against 30 with Marius Pintail, mayor of Saint-Alban-Leysse. Thierry Repentin having been elected senator the September 26th 2004 and being also general adviser, it gave up his mandates of assistant of the mayor of Chambéry and thus of president Chambéry-Metropolis the December 21st 2004. The presidency by interim was taken by Marius Pillet, first vice-president.
  • since 2005: Louis Besson (socialist), mayor of Chambéry, elected official the February 15th 2005 with 40 votes against 39 for Patrick Mignola (UDF), mayor of Ravoire.

Composition

The community of agglomeration Chambéry Métropole gathered initially 16 communes:

15 communes belonged to the community as of its creation, Saint-Jean-in Arvey having joined them two years afterwards.

The September 15th 2005, the Community council unanimously approved the adhesion of 8 additional communes, thus increasing the number of members with 24 starting from January 1st 2006:

Competences

Principal competences of Chambéry Métropole are:
  • the Water (distribution and the Cleansing)
  • the Waste S (collection, Recycling, old Compost, Incineration)
  • transport (public transport, facilitation of the urban Cycling). The network of Autobus is exploited under mark STAC (Department of Transport of the Agglomeration chambérienne) by a concessionary company. The actions in favor of cycling are the realization of way cycle and a velostation, managed by the agency Écomobilité
Chambéry Métropole is also occupied:
  • of certain equipment of leisures (swimming pool, skating rink)
  • of economic development
  • of the policy of the city
  • of the habitat
  • of the environment

  • 26.300 hectares
  • 120.400 inhabitants
