Chalon-sur-Saône

Châlon-sur-saône is a common French of the area of Burgundy, Sous-préfecture of the department of Saône-et-Loire.

Its inhabitants is called the Chalonnais .

Geography

Chalon-sur-Saône east crossed by the the Saone. More big city of its department (and second of Burgundy), it is however only chief town of Arrondissement and sub-prefecture (building remarkable Henri IV).

History

Trawl-net was the chief town of a county which was integrated into the Duché of Burgundy.

Different councils was held in Chalon, in 651,813 and 1129.

Charles IX enters the city on June 1st, 1564 at the time of royal sound Tour de France (1564 - 1566), and receives there, accompanied by the Cour and Large by the kingdom, a triumphal reception.

Administration

In 1954, the commune of Saint-Jean-of-Vines was attached to Châlon-sur-saône.

  • Emile Mauchamp (1870-1907), French doctor assassinated with the Morocco;
  • Omer Letorey (1873-1938), type-setter of music, First Grand Prix of Rome in 1895;
  • Georges Nouelle (1887-1966), Politician (SFIO) and mayor of Chalon-sur-Saône of 1926 to 1946 and 1952 to 1965;
  • Roger Marchi (1919-1946), French ace of the Second world war born in Châlon-sur-saône on July 26th, 1919;
  • Roland Carraz (1943-1999), Politician (PS then MDC) and mayor of Chenôve of 1983 to 1999.

  • Museum Dominique Alive Denon (outstanding figures of the world of arts at the end of the Old Mode). It is located on the Place of the Town hall of Chalon-sur-Saône.

Demonstrations

In 2003, following the changes by the government of the rights of the Contract workers, and contrary with the will of the organizers, treating those of “handle of agitators”, the majority of the actors of the festival made Grève and continued the movement after the " deadlines " by presenting free concerts, spectacles, restoration in different the Quoted S (the Stage, the Meadows St Jean)…
